LAN Laboratorio di Architettura Nomade Naples
www.lanhub.org

Laboratorio Architettura Nomade is a no profit independent association founded in 2004 for the research and diffusion of art and architecture. A group of artists and architects experimenting, through the production of projects, events, conferences, and workshops new research concepts and ideas about urban life and built environments.

LAN supplies the tools to examine the precarious existence of the city and its potentially extreme transformations, through experiential methods of analysis and design that challenge students to confront themselves with the context.

LAN is a research and didactical laboratory of experimentation that confronts itself with the contemporary urban materiality: the relationship among infrastructures and built environment, the importance of public spaces, the role of nature, the undefined separation between public and private, deterioration processes of abandoned areas, the potentiality of interstitial spaces, conflicts, tensions, auto-organizational expansions, residues, occupations, the non-institutional character of some urban development processes.

Since 2004, the association has developed an intense series of initiatives focusing on workshops held with American schools of architecture. Moreover, LAN has promoted the creation of a network between institutions, artists, and scholars of different disciplines working together on the understanding of urban processes. Through the workshops research, LAN supplies the tools to examine the precarious existence of the city and its potentially extreme transformations, applying experiential methods of analysis and design that challenge students to confront themselves with the metropolitan context.
